Parenting Workshop: Toolbox for Parents

Free parent information sessions offered in English for parents of children four years old and under. Come learn more about normal child development. Discover tools to help you handle difficult behaviors. Discover ways to stay calm and avoid spanking. Talk with other parents about ideas and experiences. This free workshop will be guided by psych-educator Julie Fraser. The session is offered by Jeffery Hale Community Services and will be held in the JH pavilion Room # 1135 (1270, ch. Ste-Foy, Quebec, Qc G1S 2M6. to register, please call 418 684-5333 Ext 1580.

Mom’s Nite Out

Jeffery Hale Community Services has been helping to organize Moms’ Nite-Out activities for a number of years now for mothers of preschool aged children. These events have become very popular and newcomers are ALWAYS welcome!

Every mom needs time out from parental responsibilities now and then. It’s perfectly normal. Admit it – you’re dying to make some new women friends who are in the same life stage and who speak English!

Chitchat Club
Improve your second language skills while lending a helping hand

The Chitchat Club is tailor-made for those who wish to practice speaking French and/or English while keeping their hands busy. These second language conversation groups meet regularly and pair Francophones with Englishspeakers. Volunteer second language teachers act as conversation monitors and guide discussion groups while chatty volunteers work in teams to wash toys, prepare children’s crafts, organize cupboards, fold pamphlets and attend to other interesting assignments at Jeffery Hale Community Services (1270 chemin Sainte-Foy, Quebec Qc G1S 2M6) Parking is FREE for our volunteers!

Baby Chat Café

A special oasis that allows parents of babies up to one year of age to get together to chat about a variety of parenting issues. Come exchange information and enjoy one another’s company. Parents-to-be are also welcome to attend. Join us from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the multipurpose room located on the main floor of Jeffery Hale Pavilion. Free parking.

TThe Baby Chat Café is held in the multipurpose room (#1135) of the Jeffery Hale Pavilion (1270 ch. Ste-Foy, Quebec G1S 2M6) from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Parking is free. By bus, you can take the #7 along ch. Ste-Foy, or the #800 or #801 along René-Lévesque and the walk down Avenue Holland.

Sorry, but we do not have volunteers to care for your older children at the Baby Chat Café. If you cannot find alternative care for your older children, we suggest you try the Take-a-Break Drop In instead.

Take-a-Break Drop- In

We offer a place for parents and their preschool children to get together  two Friday mornings a month from 9:30 to 11:30 am (November to May). Volunteers entertain children 18 months and older to give parents a break from child care, a chance to socialize and to listen to guest speakers. Babies under 18 months are welcome to stay with parents in the parent’s space.

Travelin’ Toddler Time

Enjoy a free activity in English just for pre-school age children (ages 2 1/2 to 4 years), and their parents or grandparents from October to June. Sing songs, hear stories, enjoy a snack and make a craft.  This activity  rotates between St. Brigid’s Home, the Morrin Centre, Valcartier Family Centre in Ste-Foy and the Quebec City  Reading Council at Eastern Quebec Learning Centre.  View online schedule.

Our next session, organized by the Quebec City Reading Council,  will be held February 10 from 9:30 to 11 AM at the Eastern Quebec Learning Centre in room 201 – 3005 rue, William-Stuart, G1W 1V4).  The theme for February is Numbers; call today to register!

Park Playdates are coordinated and hosted by parent volunteers. They offer the chance for weekly impromptu gatherings of preschool families each Friday morning from May to October in various parks across the city. Parent-hosts select a date and a neighbourhood park and volunteer to welcome English-speaking families on their park playdate.
